Recently, actually starting this week, the fuel consumption really drives me nuts.... unbelievably HIGH. Usually I would clear off the mileage meter at every fill up and that every full tank I can at least run 450km (in winter). But this time, the tank can take only around 350km with the same normal drive I did every week. So is there a problem? And I was wondering if anyone knows what causes it?
Please help

Hmm.. check your throttle cable and throttle body.. maybe due to dirt and build up it's open and running rich.

do a tuneup. try changing your plugs and cleaning your air filter and also fuel filter! Whens the last time you did a cap/rotor change?

Dude same thing happened to me i was getting 600km's to the tank then it dropped to 500km. I checked my tire pressure and they were low. I filled to the specs and i got some mialage back. Now i just need to get a tune up and it should be back to normal

Slushomatics usually get a poor fuel consumption compared to manuals. 350 is a bit low if the car is relatively stock, and bolt-ons don't do much except improve efficientcy.

How much mileage you got on the car, and when was your last tune-up, and what was performed?

I recommend a tune and maybe replace your fuel filter...

I get about 450-460 average on my lude... (city and highway)... around 500 on highway to TO...

Guys he already posted that during the same drive all of a sudden he lost 100km to the tank somewhere. Ergo, since this is a sudden occurence I'd guess it's something mechanical. I mean if it's just a tune up issue, wouldn't the drop be more gradual?

a potato in your muffler or a rabbit stuck in the intake possibly.

Another thing it could be is your brakes. Perhaps one of your calipers is not releasing properly and causing undue friction.
My money is still on your engine somehow running rich.

did you switch from regular tires to winter?

Stock or Winter tires I'm still getting about 440km+ on a tank. Its even better lately since I'm doing a lot my hwy driving now.

perhaps a fuel system flush(formula does this)? or try the fuel injector cleaners, the good ones(not the ones you buy at crappy tires)-redlyne..they consider to be more effective...
Or check to see if you are running super rich, then the O2sensors..

I usually get around 8.65km/l local/hwy, but to my surprise I've managed to hit more than 600km with full tank yesterday(long trip, all hwy)!!!! what' the deal, big diff!!

May be I'd agreed with the tune-up issue, coz it didn't happened before. My car has run past 88000km and may be I need to tune up ahead of time for the 96000km major maintainence. I didn't do anything to the car. And I believe it wouldn't make any difference if I put on the indiglo gauges the week before, rite? If that so, I'd need to speak to Sherman about that, hehe~~ But really "350km/tank" is really ridiculous all of a sudden in a week time with the same normal driving. And I remember one time I can spare 700km/tank in my trip to Chicago, and of course that's in summer. Anyway, thx everyone!

Are you going by the indicator light or the needle? Are you putting in the same amount of gas? (~45-50L)

One possibility, if you're going by the needle, is that the indiglo guages are rubbing against the needle and not giving you an accurate reading. The needle may have been displaced during the installation of the guages because the guages are "slipped on" over top of the needles...Make sure you're going by the light.

I'm experimenting on my second tank of gas after the problem exist, may be the conclusion will come out by the end of the week...

Are you running on snow tires? People tend to use up more gas on snows.

James

Yeah, I'd say check the guage install. Done incorrectly, it can burn a lot of gas.

Your car is in the range....I don't think it's any concern to tell the truth. Summer I get 450-550 on a tank, and in winter that's about 350-450. It's just the way it is...

Finally the conclusion comes up... Gas consumption back to normal 475km/tank. So really can't figure out what suck up my previous tank of gas, may be due to the cold weather that I warmed up my car a little bit longer before drive? Anyhow, thanks for helping :)
