i am looking for 17" rims but i found stock 5th gen wheel the offset is +55mm, so if i don't want any rubbing problem, what kind offset for 17" should i be looking at?

Try to get a 17 x 7 with a 45+ offset. This will accomidate any future hieght adjustments you wish to make. Emilio had a 40 offset wil a drop near to 2 inches and rubbed bad.

At least 45mm on 7.5" wide rims,
For sure no less than 42mm on 7" wide rims..

BTW I was doing some calculations for a future tire size FAQ.. If my math is right 215/35R-18 should fit ok on our cars without rubbing if the offset is 45 or better on a 7.5" wide rim and you don't lower the car more than 1.5" - of course you also need a spring rate of 500ft/lb or more.

depending on the way the rim is manufactured. you may be able to turn the center and create more offset but the central hub better be pretty thick if you're going to remove more that 2 or 3 mm... Depending on how much you really like the rim you could fill, turn the hub and redrill the holes..
