James, you should do something with the low shot of your car where you can see your sway bar - great pic.
BTW Keith, I have an idea to add to our logo.

Just stay away from attacking curbs Cory and I'll be happy.
ROFL, i got all 4 new Toyo FZ4 Tires.
Keith
08-15-2003, 03:57 PM
I thought you said you got C4s?
BTW, FZ4 are known to be a terrible tire. Noisy, bad in the rain and doesn't stick well. I told you NOT to get it before...
Thats all my dad would get and come with a 40,000 mile warranty and stuff so my dad MADE me get those i asked about those other toyo and they told my dad they are really sticky and are for summer and stuff i dunno so i got them...there better then my firehawks. no noise and i took a hard turn today seemed to stick better then my others.
Keith

Hard turn? Did another curb come out of nowhere? Cory, take it easy man! BTW, why did you bother asking me what tire you should get when your dad was going to get you whatever he wanted to buy you anyhow?
i told him i was going to ask you what are some good tires...and i gave him the list...2 of them they didnt have in stock...the one toyo my dad didnt like because of the guy descrbing it...and so he said lets get the FZ4 and i said anything is better then the tires i have now...
the turn i took to test the tires see how good they where nothing dangerous they are good enough for me and those other toyos were more money then my dad wanted to spend. you did help us tho decide what to get.
keith I'm jealous could you make me one of those nice sigs to?

Ugh, you guys actually like those tires? I guess they're alright for driving around, but they rank as bad as the Nittos in cornering (ie. they're soft), and not grippy enough to my liking. Colin, if you can upgrade to better tires, get the Kumho MX. Chris and I love those tires, and though they are summer-only tires (which is what the Ecta Supra are as well), they have excellent grip, does fine in the rain, corners like a dream, and most importantly, they don't cost much more than the Ecsta Supra.
ex:
215/40/17 Kumho Ecsta Supra $88/tire
215/40/17 Kumho MX $99/tire
If that's the only tire choice that you can get, I guess get 'em. But if you can get better tires, go for the MX.

Wow, James if there really is the difference you say (which I trust there is), the $10 a tire is nothing!

I'm more than a little confused how this thread got revived?!?!
What I gather so far:
James needed a new sig in 2003... So did Chris... So did Cory
Keith made new ones... again in 2003...
Two years later...
Scott thought it was funny...
Colin is getting new wheels and tires...
Shadow Dancer thought that was cool...
James (being the all knowing wise elder that he is) directed them to Supra MX
Do I have this right?
Keith
04-11-2005, 02:00 PM
I think that's about right Clark :P
I made a new sig to promote NPM... others have followed :)

About the tires Listen to James I have the Ecsta Supra and I don't really like them. But if you want I will sell you mie real cheap. They are on my SSRs right now, I bought them for the BBSs. I wish I would have spent a more money at the time.

What about the Dunlop Direzza DZ101. They seem to have slightly better reviews but are only a couple bucks more. Does anyone have any idea about tread life comparison? The Kuhmo seems to get into the 30-40,000 range, but the reviews for the DZ101 only put it up to a few thousand...

Granted, threadware ratings are quite subjective (300 on one tire manufacturer might not be the same as 300 on another), but I would expect that its rating would give it 30-40,000 miles of normal use. Being that it is a summer tire, you probably won't drive it year-round. Well, then again considering the extremely mild winter St. Louis just had, I could be wrong. :)

How do the tread wear rating work?
Keith

How do the tread wear rating work?
Treadwear-
This unit is a measure of treadwear durability. Tested against an industry standard, the assigned numerical grade indicates how well the tread last compared with a reference standard of 100. A treadwear rating of 200 means the tread wears twice as well as the standard of 100. Actual wear depends on the conditions under which the tire is being used. Driving habits, service habits, differences in road surface and the varying climates will affect treadwear.
FYI that every manufacturer provides the rate for each of their tire... that being said a rating of 280 from Bridgestone might not mean the same as a 280 from Goodyear.
