My really good friend and co-worker (known for 13 years) flipped his 2 month old X-Terra on the way home from the Hockey game last night. Normally the 2 of us go to the game together, but last night I went with his brother and my friend (Dave) went with his roommates on a different set of tickets. He said he just fell asleep at the wheel on HWY 44 around the Southwest Ave exit. Apparently it flipped and landed on the drivers side. He can't remember how he got out of the wreck, but he knows he did so under his own power. All the necessary air bags deployed and he walked away with a tiny scratch on his head. I like to rip SUV safety, but I'm glad his Nissan held up well.
Please, if you are ever feeling tired or like you can't concentrate enough to drive, then pull over, call a friend, or whatever you have to do. Just be smart. I'm lucky to not have lost a friend because of this.

Yeah, luckily he only hit the guardrail and no other vehicles were involved.
that good to hear that he is alright! I just dont understand how people can fall asleep at the wheel maybe with a disease or something but its just exciting for me, well thanks for the word out!

LOL... I think Cory meant that DRIVING is exciting for him so he could never fall asleep.
Glad your friend's ok man! I know that feeling of getting super tired at the wheel. There have been some touch and go times!

I've almost fallen asleep at the wheel in the 'Lude before...worked a graveyard shift, had little sleep going into the shift. I nearly went off the road on Hwy 40, just missing the ditch. So yes, Cory, it IS possible to fall asleep when it doesn't involve a "disease or something".
Chris, good thing your friend is OK.
I know it can happen i realize that is happend to my brother i just dont grasp how....thats all

It's really ****ing easy... If you drive the same route over and over again, and one day you didn't get enough sleep or your mind is elsewhere, there's a good chance you'll doze off.
i drive the same route to school at 7 am every morn. just waking up and i dont i yawn and feel like crud but i manage to stay awake. o well

Cory just wait till you get a serious g/f and she lives an hour away... you will stay up all night boning or something, and then fall asleep and wakeup and say '**** I was supposed to be home 4 hours ago', and start driving home....trust me, we have all had those times where we are really tired and have had a drink or two, and have to roll down all the windows in weather like this and crank up the music...
