Hey guys,
I know it's early but I've already got the details on the first track/lapping day/course at Gateway International Raceway by the Phil Wicks Driving Academy. It will be on Saturday April 10th, 2004. Here are the details as I know for now.
- Normal rate is $200 but STLPC members can receive a great discount if we get enough people signed up.
- The novice group which includes theory and practical training.
- Everyone can have an instructor with them for a session or two to evaluate and pick up pointers.
- Your car must pass tech inspection (tires, no leaking fluids, brakes, etc).
- SA 95 or higher helmet is required.
- There will be course workers working the flags for our safety.
- Passing allowed only on straights and when signaled by the person getting passed.
I know may people expressed interested last time after hearing feedback from James and I. Who in for this one? I know I am and so is James. If you haven't do track before in your Lude, you are really missing out. Here is where you get to find and hopefully push the limits of yourself and your Lude. There is plenty of track time available and you don't have to feel pressured to over drive your car... you can take it at your own pace. If you don't plan on participating, you can always come and watch.
Here is what the course looks like. (it's the infield/road course part)

You might have to get your parents to sign for you. Let me find out Cory. Will you be 17 by then?

either way as long as the helmet is snell and dot approved within regulations that gateway has, it doesn't matter what sport the helmet is made for....
I posted the link for cheap asses.

Thanks Jen! Rides alongs are welcomed but you have to have your own helmet.
We need to buckle down to hand in our registration... I want to start picking up deposits by early March at least.
So people that are officially in:
Keith
James
Chris
Al
Cory: If you hold a drivers license, you are allowed to participate.

I'll be instructing. Anyone in the Intermediate run group from STLPC is welcome to call Phil Wicks and request me as your instructor.
BTW: If you're under 18 you need to find out what the deal is with the waiver. Last I checked you still need to be 18 to sign a legal document. Might need a parent/guardian with you.

I wouldn't mind having you ride with me to give me some pointers Rich... (if you don't mind).

Keith In the afternoon will probably work for that. Which run group are you in? If you feel confident enough to be in the Expert group you'd probably benefit more from riding along in the Civic. If not, I can just hop into your car after one of the Expert/Instructor sessions.

Personally, I'll stay in the Intermediate run group. I wouldn't want to hold anybody up. I would like to run with you in the Richmobile and walk me through the course...

Rich, I'm probably moving to Expert, but wouldn't mind getting a refresher from you by riding with you on one run (skipping a run on my own).

I would like to do it badly, but im still unsure if I should just go as a ride along my first time.
What do you all think
Keith

Riding along is fun and gives you a good idea of what to expect. The only bad thing is that you have to wait till the next event to run the track (could be months). Spots are filling up fast and I've submited our registration forms and deposits already to secure our spots. I believe there are still some available but if you are planning to sign up, let me know ASAP before all the spots are gone!
Keith
what time are you guys leaving to go down there keith, I might follow and watch...
Keith
04-06-2004, 05:07 PM
Early... like 7ish... I'll have a better idea of timing later during this week.
Keith
7ish oh dang, well I guess i'll just meet you guys down there :D

Keith, I don't know if you got the Phil Wicks' letter, but registration starts at 7am, mandatory driver's meeting at 7:40. Looks like we may have to depart around 6:30 instead.
