I grew up in a town in Northeast Missouri called Hannibal. I'm not sure if any of you are familiar with it or not. Basically it's a little tourist type town of about 18000 people known for the fact that the author, Samuel Clemens aka Mark Twain, lived there as a child. Anyway, scenic Missouri Highway 79 runs right into Hannibal. The motorcycle club that I used to belong to, St. Louis Area Rides, makes two trips annually to Hannibal just to ride that road. It goes from Hannibal all the way to Interstate 70 around O'Fallon, MO. I just thought that if we could get a bunch of people together that it might be a fun cruise to do. We could all drive in together. I could probably arrange something with the Visitors and Convention Bureau and/or some shop owners on Main Street to provide us some parking and such. We could drive in, park the cars, wander around downtown, grab a bite to eat, hang out and kinda show off the cars, then cruise home. Anyway, just a thought. 79 is a great road to drive on, especially the stretch between Louisiana, MO and Hannibal. There is one stretch that we used to use as our own, personal little drag strip. It's a stretch of road that is about 2 miles of straight, flat, concrete with nice wide shoulders and corn fields on both sides. One driveway on one end and a blacktop road on the other end. No other places for cars to pull on or off. It's great. Anyway, if anyone would be interested, please let me know and I'll start working on something.

If we go all the way from O'Fallon to Hannibal on 79, it wouldn't take any longer than 2 hours. Depending on the speed of the pack, it could be done in an hour and a half or so I would say. It's been awhile since I've taken that road all the way to Hannibal.

That's another fun drive, not to mention a great place to roll into with a bunch of nice looking cars.

Hmm, I'll have to think on that one. The name doesn't pop right out but it might come to me. Was his dad's name Rick or something?

I've taken a drive on 79 to Hannibal. VERY scenic and nice twists on the way. Though, as I found out a few weeks ago...ALOT of speed traps through the small towns.

The shorter drives to Augusta, and the side roads in that area, are great too. :)

If we went to augusta, we could stop at the wineries for a while.

Yeah James, that's why the best stretch of 79 is from Louisiana to Hannibal. Great twisties, no speed traps, and one helluva nice straightaway.

It's awesome outside isn't it? Now if it were just nice and dry out, it would be fine. I can handle the 50's but this 30, 20, and 10 degree crap has got to go.
