I think your next impulse buy is trading the Civic HB in and importing the '04 Civic Type R. ;)
I wont get that bike for a looong time, im having to much fun with things that have 4 wheels. I'd like a bike someday, right now im not even tall enough to ride a sport bike so it wouldnt matter, but the GSX-R keeps calling my name. Someday...

I guess I'll just have to lower it for you then. When ya get it, let me know. We'll slam it. Plus that way, the front end won't come up on you.

he could probably learn on a gixxer 600..
jester

Gixxer 600's sit at nearly the exact same height as a 750 or a 1000. They weigh within a couple of pounds of both of the bigger bikes as well. The hp is definitely lower on a 600 compared to a 750 or 1000, but you're still over 100rwhp on the 600. A lot of people say "it's just a 600" but 600's are not the "starter" bikes that they used to be. Most of the current 600's run within a half second of the larger displacement bikes as far as lap times and quarter mile times. 600's aren't the great "starter" bikes that they used to be.

jester, i know 3-4 people who have learned on gixxer 600s in the last few years.. you are right in respect to the fact that they are still very fast bikes, but not as close to the higher displacement bikes as you make them sound I think.. i wasn't talking about the rideheight though.. he would be a bit short for one.. hehe..
"split the beans"? as in tell what it is? 95 civic 4 door 5spd.. guy wants $300 for it.. has a slightly bent rear frame rail.. motor is fine(but high miles).. thought it would be a fun project for over the winter(motor rebuild as well? :) ) that could either be resold for profit or turned into a track car(don't know about it being a 4dr in that respect).. i still haven't made a decision.. the bodywork doesn't scare me, but i still haven't found out how much it'd cost me to put it on a frame rack..

I meant 'spill the beans'... :P
Hmmm... the EG 4doors are hideous IMHO. Maybe if it was a beater car during the winter... :D

Here's a link to the whole article: http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/roadtests/04gsxr750/
Here's the excerpt of interest though:
On the dyno, all that adds up to 127.3 horses at 12,750 rpm, beating the '00 edition's 123 horses at 12,500. Amazingly, the new 750 is just four horses down on Yamaha's original YZF-R1. A GSX-R1000 nips the '04 750's total at 8750 rpm, 2250 rpm short of its 150-horsepower peak. Nevertheless, horsepower is only half the game. On the scales, the new 750 is 10 pounds lighter than its muscle-bound big brother. At the strip, our last GSX-R1000 covered the quarter-mile in 10.10 seconds at 142.50 mph. The latest 750 did it in 10.39 at a tick over 135—close enough to make the big boy nervous. Meanwhile, the 429-pound GSX-R600 complicates things with a 10.77-second, 128.2-mph pass.
Is that close enough for ya? :D

So I picked up the bike last night with the help of Laura (thanks!!). She gave me a ride up there, and I rode it back home.
The 750 is a waaaay different bike than the 600 was. I was fumbling around with the shifter pedal a bunch, and the bike sits lower and longer, so it just feels funny. Its definitely much more enjoyable to ride though.
After Laura left, I went back out on the bike for a bit. Man, once I got used to it, it was REALLY fun!! The additional power is perfect for me -- its enough to "get around" but still isn't so much that I'll break my neck on it. Handles really well, and other Harley guys check it out, thinking that its an H-D at first. Sounds mean too. :)

They're checking it out thinking "Man, I wish I wouldn't have gotten talked into this slow-a*ss, expensive, piece of s*hit that I'm riding."
Nice choice Al. You'll be much happier with the 750 too.

Colin, the CBR's are great bikes. I've had 2 of them. My first was a 96 F3 and the second was a '00 929RR. I traded the 929 about a year ago and I miss not having a bike anymore. I miss not making passes on it the most though. Honda really does make superb motorcycles. Most of the time they're down a little on horsepower; they might not have the fastest lap times; and they might be a couple hundred bucks higher than the competition; but what you'll find is that overall, they're a little bit better than a lot of the competitors. Some of the bikes will make a little more horsepower, translating to slightly faster quarter mile times. Some of them will handle a tiny bit better, translating to faster lap times. Some of them might be a little cheaper as well. But as far as overall handling, smooth powerband, stopping, and ride comfort, the Hondas (CBR's especially) and great.
By the way, the "Fireblade" that you referred to is the trade name of the CBR900RR, CBR929RR, CBR954RR, and CBR1000RR bikes in Canada and Europe. They drop the Fireblade name on the U.S. models.
And Cory, the 'Busa is a gixxer of sorts. As opposed to the GSX-R600, GSX-R750, and GSX-R1000, the Hayabusa is a GSX-1300R.
Yes, i know, for my first bike im getting a 600 though, something to learn on, i can always move up to a more powerful bike when i feel more confident about my riding skills.

Yeah, I definitely wasn't trying to suggest that you get a 'Busa. No way. I don't want you to die that young!

I'd say that's the way that almost all high-speed motorcycle crashes end.
