So I must buy one but full face ones just aren't my bag. The Darth Vader, hear your self breath action is just not for me. This is why I don't have a motorcycle.

So there are two other options.

There is the Open Face one which looks like this:

Gotta love the Army action here......

and there is the half helmet which looks like this:

Now those AFX Half Helmets are Carbon Fibre (Tres Chic) and are DOT Approved. Does this mean I can wear it on the track?

Now before I get in **** from the GodFather I did also read while searching "If you have a $10 head, buy a $10 helmet"

It's not the price thats the factor here too...cuz it would be the biggest waste of money for me to purchase a helmet and not be able to use it.

Also Is there a helmet with a lower profile so that I don't have to have my head out the sunroof while driving? This is very uncomfortable and it's nice to be able to actually turn your head when driving on the track. It makes the experience that much better.

Before I close this post I leave you with the following image.

Thank you for your time.

I don't think those'll fly...DOT ratings are one thing, snell ratings are another...

Tracks/autoX's require certain snell ratings..AFAIK, the only ones I've seen are the traditional bike helmets...hard shell protecting the head, and sides of head beyong the ear...I don't think leather covers will do it...

None of the ones you see above are leather.

I've seen people with open face helmets all the time! They're even okay for people on Motorcycles!

You know, open face with the flip down front.

That half helmet was just something I just saw.

Remember I'm not competitive, I just don't want to be left out.

Nono...

You can use open face ones, but the ears need to be covered AFAIK....those ones have those leather/kevlar over the ears, and in one instance there's an exposed ear...I think that won't work...

Oh I see what you're saying. Oh well, when in doubt buy the open face sucker.

I wonder, are there helmets htat have a lower profile so that my head doesn't hit the ceiling of the car?

do most Auto-X's require SNELL approved helmets?

AFAIK, most events will be snell rated...

My bike helmet is DOT....really they wouldn't let it on if they checked it...

I think you can get a slimmer profile helmet...but those are dollars and legalities behind skullcaps make them illegal...

ALMOST EVERY MOTORSPORT SANCTIONING BODY IN NORTH AMERICA REQUIRES SNELL RATED HELMETS!

Not only that but as if this year they must be M95/SA95 or better. M90 are out!

Whoa, big font dude. This is why I ask questions. Because I don't know the answers.

Anyhow lemme ask another dumb ass question to be chastised by.

Are there Snell rated open face helmets? Or only the full face ones Snell rated?

Some of the companies I see say that they are Snell rated but it doesn't say all codes like SA this and SA that.

I think I had already mentioned that DOT helmets are not good enough and that they require snells...

I just got blitzed by cockyncrabby.exe.... :(

Yes they sell Snel rated open face helmets. They are very popular in Solo-2 where safety is less of an issue. I personal feel naked in an open face, but whatever floats your boat.

I used the big font because I see the question a lot and I knew that a lot of people would scan right past my response. The big font wasn't for you it was for everyone else glancing for this thread quickly.
