once in a while the teeth on the flywheel will not match up, and I get a loud screeching noise, and it will not crank. So I have to do it again and it will catch and start. First question is will this go away? next, is there a way to stop it? finally, has this happened to any of you?

Thanks,
Alex

Did you get a lightened flywheel? Machine shops tend to take too much material off the teeth sometimes.

Otherwise, your starter brushes might be too worn.

Did you get the right flywheel? You have a h22 swap right? The Prelude flywheel and Accord flywheel have a different number of teeth or slightly different diameters or something like that. Maybe they gave you an Accord flywheel seeing your car is an Accord...

Happens to me every now and then as well. I think it's my starter. Had this problem before I went with an aftermarket clutch and flywheel.

I checked, and it is a prelude flywheel. for 92-96 vtec. which is what I have.

The Accord has 1 less tooth compared to the Prelude, and the timing mark is 2 degrees advanced.
Other than those differences, it should start no matter.

I'd guess is that the CM's flywheel teeth have been grinded down too much.

both the accord and the lude flywheel have exactly the same part # on www.clutchmasters.com .... hummmmm strange.

As far as I've seen, noone grinds the actual teeth down when lightening a flywheel. You mean the grind them so they're thinner?

I would have to say it's the starter as well. It used to happen to me on my old Tercel and on my Oldsmobile.

Just checked out the flywheel from CM. Sorry, I thought they were modified factory ones.
It's probably your starter then...

I've seen a few flywheels where the machine shop modify the teeth so that they're thinner or shorter just to reduce just a bit more weight. Some go as far as taking material out completely (holes). This wouldn't be a very streetable setup, and your asking for something to break or shatter.

Mark, JUN flywheels have really short teeth, and some have experienced hard starting with them.

My starter worked fine before I got the flywheel... should I try to replace the starter gear, or the entire starter?
