Hey everyone. My name is David and I just bought my 5th Gen 97 Prelude after driving a Geo around for four years. I just wanted to see what the luder scene in the St Louis area is like. I have pics on my cardomain site at the bottom. Nice to meet everyone and hope to see people someday at the tracks and shows!

Welcome!

Are you interested in doing track as in road course or as in drag? :)

as far as racing goes, my car is stock right now and an SS transmission, so i want to do both, but we will have to see how the car holds up. I do love to go fast and the Prelude takes corners so well that a nice track that I could get some speed on would be fun :)...

Welcome!

You should definately come out to the track (road course) sometime and see what it's all about.....there's a few of us on here that are out there fairly often during the summer. Most clubs will let you do a ride along (for a small fee), and that's all it took to get me hooked 4 years ago!

Welcome to HACSTL! Questions for you...I noticed a couple of things on your mod list, and wanted to comment. I'm not familiar with the Type M front lip...what does it look like? On the header, I'd steer you away from DC Sports. The collector size is smaller than stock, and if you get the stainless steel version, it tends to rust and oxidize easily. I should know as I have that header now. I'd like to get rid of it! Also, on the TEIN H springs, you're still leaving the struts stock? I would suggest getting aftermarket struts to go with the springs. Anyways, enjoy your stay!

My friend (who has a 2001 Prelude) and I are both planning on attending some local Honda/Acura events this summer. I know I will be hooked. I already am hooked to the feeling of the vtec...as I write this, Champaign is getting another inch of snow and ice, so no vtec for awhile (why didn't I go to school somewhere warm :) )

As far as my mods go, it is an early list. The type m front lip is on jdmsh**.com and is one of the only lips I could find that would fit my car and is not a ricer lip. The DC header is not very good, but I hope to find one for cheap because of that. I am actually buying my Tein H springs slightly used and the guy is also selling/giving me his Tokico W struts with them, so I should be set. Thanks for the comments!

welcome!

IMO, just buying a header that is crappy to have a header isn't a very good idea.. save that money and put towards something of higher quality or a different part, etc.. your car and your money though!

Yeah for an H22, buying a DC or GReddy is a step backwards. It's a waste of money, unless you're going to add a 2.5" collector.

PS I know from experience. Don't just get springs and leave stock struts. You'll be happy for a while, but it will not take very long for you to realize you should have saved up for at least some aftermarket struts/dampers. Save up for what you really want, not what's cheapest.

Actually, I ran a DC Sport CC header for years and never had any issues. My dyno plot was actually pretty decent so I think it's still better than stock and they sound better. :)

Hope you can make it out for our next official meet (probably March)!

Welcome! Nice clean lude. I hope your SS transmission doesn't give you the same problems mine has given me!

haha dantheman, i was wondering when someone would talk about the ss transmission and its horrible track record. i am saving money on the side for a 5 speed swap if/when it goes out.

also, as far as the header goes, i don't know if i am going to get one for an auto. would there be any significant gain? how much would it lower my gas mileage?

Good luck man, I wish I had the time/ money to do a manual swap.

Nah, no difference in gas mileage. Clark (aka Truckload) used to rip it up the track when he had his SS Prelude... he was plenty quick so don't let anybody tell you that they are slow!
