Cap and Rotor?

Is there any way to check if a new cap and rotor is needed, or just replace it during regular intervals. The reason I am asking is because I am getting my distributor serviced and I want to know if I should replace the cap and rotor while its out... I have put about 20 000 Km's on the car since I bought it.... but I also don't want to replace then if I don't have to.

I think short of taking it apart and looking at it, no. How many total km's on the car?

i suggest to change the cap and rotor every 48k no matter the condiiton...
