explain to my friend why he's a retard

my friend drives a civic si. he's also an idiot (not saying that all civic drivers are idiots). He hasn't gotten an oil change in 25,000 kms and the only one he did get was at 17,000. he wants to go turbo since he can get a pretty good deal on a greddy turbo kit. i lack the technical knowledge to explain fully why this is a bad idea considering the state of his engine. could someone explain why putting a turbo on a crappy engine (both performance wise and maintenance-wise) is bad?

maybe he's using synthetic oil. doesn't mobil-1 state that their oil is so superior you don't have to change your oil for like 40 000 km's!? :D

No they don't. I feel sorry for that engine.. does he at least top it up? Even I with Mobil1 :) wouldn't got that long between intervals.. Tell him a turbo requires a lot of involvement in terms of engine care and it sounds like he is not into that.. :rolleyes:

so how about some technical things like why it's bad to not change oil? is it because the visosity of the oil deteriorates over time?

I wouldn't go that long without changing my oil either -- it was just something i remember hearing/reading, to show how amazing mobil-1 synthetic oil is compared to regular ones! I know it was some outrageous number though. ..

To put it simply, every oil starts with a 'base' stock and then an additive package is used. Over time, that additive package is used up. So basically if you go really long without changing the oil, it breaks down, contains dirt and combustion by products and generally does not protect the engine very well. Very bad for the engine in the long term.

This guy must either have one of the best engines off the line or he's BS's you. My brothers civic eats up about 1 quart of oil every 3000km.

Is he adding oil to the car?? If that's the case maybe it's true but if its 25,000km and no oil is added.BS. The engine will run out of oil. Ask those here who lost thier mototr's due to oil starvation. (due to gravity not to lack of maintanace).

Odds are his internals are all worn pretty badly, and adding increased pressure'd blow things up pretty nicely IMO...

Well anyways I just broke 110000kms and i cahnged my oil today.. castrol 5w 30 and Honda filter.....I feel bad for my car when i let the oil stay in there more than 4000 kms :)
