My buddy is returning his lease car and he offered his alarm system for 50$... it's a Prestige Alarm, used for 3 years... think I should get it? Is it worth it? Anybody have any experience with this make? I have nothing right now...
Keith
I would say most car related things for $50 is a good deal.

i got the prestige on my car - it's alright. i guess it's definetely better then nothing - gives me a little bit of extra comfort when i leave my car parked somewhere. The things i hate about it are 1. you have to be within about 10meters of the car for the remote thing to work. 2. it's not very loud compared to some other alarms.
but for $50 why the hell not.

I have it too... I like it fine. The fact that the remote doesn't work from very far away makes me feel a lot more comfortable, as I have a tendency to keep a bunch of stuff in my pocket with my keys and the button, I'm certain, get pushed a lot by accident.
Plus, there's an option to get the window up/down module.

I'd say for a $40 install you can't go wrong! The install is what makes up the cost of an alarm.

it can cost you more in the long run if they have 2 go and patch his butcher job up. Sometimes paying more for an install is better because you get a clean install, instead of a "ghetto" job. But I am not sure who the installer is so I cant really say anything.

Nah, my mechanic is the installer... he's the only one that does work on my car... I am pretty anal about that kind of stuff...

I believe that Prestige owns viper which own now clifford, so it should be bad. Thats a great deal. I got my alarm installed for $550 (including alarm). Oh yeah, mine has an automatic start on my SR-V. Nevermind, I'm just yammering. :D

I had a prestige alarm on my CRX.
I guess I am the only negative person here, but again, it is all in the installation. and the Model of the alarm.
I think that mine was on the cheaper side. cause all the Crooks did was disconnect my battery and the alarm was usless.
For all of you out there with alarms I Would recommend that you have a back-up battery hidden somewhere in your car. So that if the theifs decide that they are going to pull off the connection, the alarm will still go strong.

true that, but if you get a backup battery then you should get another horn hidden in the car too. My friend hide a horn in the back bumper. lol. even if they took off the battery then they can still cute the horn off too.
