See 1st post for current driver list. Ok, who wants to race this winter?

*****************UPDATED LIST OF DRIVERS************

Cancelled, Sunday Jan 31, Im whatching the Australian Open:
SlipAngle79 and 3 of his friends
Jonathan

I feel it neccassary to start a thread here. This Sunday I propose we meet where I have my GT4 racing sim set up. You can view it here:

Simply put it is everything you would want for this type of experience, solid mounts for everything, flatscreens, subwoofers, over 500 cars, tons of real tracks, etc.

During the meeting, everyone will get a chance to play and offer input regarding how we could succesfuly start a championship to last into the warm months. I think this could be ALOT of fun for some of the folks on here and I think Sunday would be the best day for our races. There are some refreshments for us, you are wecome to bring your own of course. I may bring a few frozen pizzas too.

So PM me and I will send you the adress and my contact info. Again, I want to meet this Sunday - I'm thinking around 2 or 3pm for a start time. Dubbs and FormulaRedline can offer their respectve opinions of the set up upon request.

Yepers - It shouldn't be so hard to get some HACSTL people to show up! WTF. Anyway, I plan on making this a re-ocuring thing...maybe every other Sunday or something, we'll see. fotoguy bailed too - has to work I guess. What is wrong with all of you pepole working on Sundays anyway? And running errands seems more suitable for a Saturday afternoon IMO. I suppose I needed to promote this thing further in advance. It doesn't matter though, there will be plenty of non-HACSTL peoples to race. Jonathan, Dubbs: I will see you at 3 today. A good time shall be had by all of those that have an ounce of passion for auto racing.

Hmm what is wrong working on Sunday?

I'd guess I am fond of that paycheck and am only officially on call one week a month. Being on salary they can insist I work anytime, which they have done in the past and will likely do in the future. I have gotten my work week down to 70 hrs which is progress. Just 5 more years and I can retire!!!!!

I didn't see or hear from you when we had the EOY dinner a month ago...

I totally agree that we should have more events so HACSTL members can meet and catch up BUT you certain don't need me to be there in order to consider it a successful event.

As for GT4, I never said I would be going anywhere this weekend... but your are right Jonathan, I would have definitely got my ass kicked I wouldn't have ANY chance against people who play the game once a week. Either way, I would still be interested in attending a GT4 partay as long as there are other casual players like myself.

Re: Ok, who wants to race this winter?

Today was the first time I played GT4, plus with the wheel. It's not a bad learning curve, but there's definitely room for improvement in my game. Thanks Nick, I had a great time and I look forward to next Sunday.

Re: Ok, who wants to race this winter?

First, thank you guys for attending, i was impressed with what quick study's you are! We ended up doing driver changes every 3 laps which evened out the playing field and kept it fun for all. I will not lie, it is rare that anyone can beat me but it has been done on occasion. I have 3 friends that I am booking for next Sunday that all have kept up with me or taken a race from me. A 4th is a definate shoe in and is a regular with the skills to trade the lead with me as long as we are in race cars on race slicks. He will be there for sure.

So, perhaps a tournament will be a future goal. As for now, the driver changes keep it interesting. I might smoke someone on my stint but my co-driver might give up that time and end up battling for position on his stint. Keep in mind there will be guys there next Sunday that I cannot simply walk away form unless they make a mistake and more people = 3 or 4 dirver teams and 12 lap races based on our preliminary findings for competative format in the realm of Gran Tourismo Multi Player!

-BTW I thought I was whatching a BMI episode at times as we faught to keep it togethr on the deceptively complex corners of the Tsukuba circuit in Japan.

Ok Keith, I can't let your comment go unpunished here mate - I wasn't at the EOY dinner because I was...wait a minute let me think about this...now where was I for 3 months for work - oh right thats it, I WAS IN OMAHA NEBRASKA!!!

I would have loved to have attended this year but couldn't, in fact I was rather upset over it 7 hours away in Omaha when it was -1 outside and my firends from HACTL where all enjoying spirits and the festivities of EOY!

We missed you guys last Sunday. I have a nice periodical on CART racing circa 1997 I wanted to give to you. So am I to count you and/or Ali in for next Sunday?

Re: Ok, who wants to race this winter?

Not in for sure yet, but I'll put the 17th on my schedule.

Nick kicks my ass since I don't have enough Gran Turismo seat time (and the part where he's not so bad himself), but its still fun and should be more so with more people in attendance!

Re: Ok, who wants to race this winter?

Oh whatever Dave - I thought we had some tight battles that day. I even think you beat me after about an hour of driving the same cars on the same track? - DC2 ITR's around Midfield IIRC.

If you could make it that would be great! 2 of my friends that are very fast are already confirmed, and I'm still waiting on my other 2 freinds that are very quick. The street tire races are my favorite becuase it forces you to drive more like you are in a real car.

Yeah, I found out that you were out of town only when Dave was over for the EOY... I just figured it would have been nice if you replied back to me when I asked if you were going to be in town for the EOY (referring to this -> http://www.hacstl.com/forums/showpos...09&postcount=4).

Anyhow regarding this Sunday, we just found out that our new sectional is being delivered this Sunday so I don't know when they are delivering it. After it's been installed, I'm going to mount the TV on the wall (centered to the sectional). That's what is currently on my agenda so far... and our Friday and Saturday night is already booked already too!

Re: Ok, who wants to race this winter?

No worries guys, I just want to see you and have a good time - you are my friends! I'll keep updating this thread for when the next GTG will be and if you can make it lemme know.

Regarding the whole EOY affair, I was very stressed at my job and home life - part of the reason I left - I most likely didn't bother looking at anything EOY-related because I was too pissed that I wasn't going to be there. Thats me "feeling sorry for myself" and I should have put the emotions aside.

Re: Ok, who wants to race this winter?

Indeed gentleman, a good time was had by all yet again. Thank you for attnding as we had 7 drivers on hand for the tournament!. What impressed me most yesterday was everybody's contribution to the planning of the tournament format. We did a 3 round tournament with random driver order. To be fair I have been playing the Gran Tourismo series since its inception in 1997. Yes, some of the tracks we raced on I have driven on for 13 years...almost every day for 5 of those 13 years, 4 years with a wheel, and against people (not AI). If given the same car in an "every man for himself" championship, I will most likely have an advantage. I was able to win without too much fight BUT, in practice I drove an NA2 USM NSX against a very good non-Hacstl friend in an E46 EUM M3 CSL, and I got beat!

I think next we should do the multi driver team system or a car picking system to allow lesser experienced players to have an advantage...maybe we all quali in the same car and based on all the times derive a car assignment provision along with a tire advantage. It will also force the driver to find the strengths and weekness' of each car. I have some ideas to keep it interesting...

Re: Ok, who wants to race this winter?

Havnt tried Forza 3 but liked the older ones. Unfortunately, the facility we meet at has antiquated PS2's leaving GT4 to be the only race worthy arena to compete in. The wheel and seats do make up for it though IMHO but PS3's with the new software and new Logitech hardware is a fantasy. I am po' broke and lonely-can't even say I'm ball'n on a budget anymore. In the words of the great Mr. T: "I need work foo".
