Anybody Interested in going to the 100 Acre Rally?

Anybody interested in attending the 100 Acre Rally in Salem, Missouri? I'd like to go up there and snap some pictures... I know other HACSTL members have gone before... perhaps they can provide some more details on what to expect?

More than a 300 (x 1.6) mm? Is the event worth renting a 400mm?

On a 1.6x camera, 300 ought to be plenty. You might have to do a little post-process cropping though.

If I go, I'll bring my Sigma "Bigma" 50-500mm and a monopod.

I'm gonna try to come this year, missed it last year. We just went on Saturday (I think?) for the main day of racing 2 years ago. If you stay all day, it's not really necessary to stay overnight. You should be able to pick up maps so you can drive around to all the different stages, which is fun in itself, because you usually run into competing rally cars on the main roads.

Nice Al! Post more! I'm assuming you got media credentials? I was up there with a friend starting at 9am and stayed until the Potosi Super Special Stage. Had a great time but really wished we had better access to the cars in action. Having to manage taking pictures through the crowd, people with media credentials and trees/branches proved frustration and challenging. I'll post some of my pictures when I have a moment to go through them.

No, I just got in the Jeep and drove some old logging trails until I found a good spot on one of the courses.

Where the hell was Pastrana? Did he wreck on Friday night? I know he's never finished a 100 Acre Wood event. He always wrecks.

I didn't go Friday but he didn't crash and had the fastest time I believe. But on the second to last stage (Super Special), his lower driver side rear control arm broke.

Keith were you at Viburnum service at some point? i swear i thought i saw you but i was so busy trying to notify crew on crashes and making sure that the fueling area was under control and crewing for the LDR team i didnt have time to talk to anyone.

As for Trav.. he was out after the SS.. the team sent the manager and a tech out.. but could not touch the car unless they wanted a 10min penalty. They towed the car back to Salem and threw it in the trailer and nether Travis or Christian came out of the hotel after... i know from what i heard over the Subaru radio he was pretty upset after leading prior to SS by 1.5 min

Thanks Al! The day started off pretty frustrating at the first stage of the day and I only got a handful of 'decent' shots. The saving grace was catching the cars at the start of stage 9 and the Super Special. Using a 100-400mm F/4.0 certainly helped too
